SEE THE SITUATION

“My regular account is down.”

A message signed by your supervisor asks you to send the employee roster to a personal address. It supplies a new mobile number for confirmation. Name the sensitive action plainly: someone wants company information sent to a new destination. That decision deserves a check before you send anything.

YOUR GOAL

Choose a truly independent contact, confirm authority and use the approved process.

Send the roster to my personal address

Requested: employee rosterCompany information to a new destination

The new address and number both came from the request.

Keep these essentials

Choose contact information from an established source outside the request. A second number supplied by the sender is not independent.

If verification is incomplete, hold and escalate. Use company reporting instructions; contact IT directly after an interaction, rather than only moving the message to junk.
